Baseball is the classroom
7.5%
of high school players will play in college.
2%
of college players get drafted by MLB.
100%
of all players will need strong character and life skills to be successful young adults.
With that in mind, we put as much emphasis on learning life skills as we do on baseball skill development.
We find that these characteristics result in Winning On and Off the Field.
Positive by design
We use positive language and good-behavior reinforcement to lead our kids. We coach through relationships and building trust, so kids aren't afraid to take smart risks or make mistakes. Our coaches are firm, but never disparage or use foul language toward a player.
Fair warning
If you think yelling at kids when they make mistakes is the best approach, we aren't the program for you.
Because of how we coach, our team is more like a family — where character and attitude matter.
I remember as a young Little League player (40 years ago) having a coach that would scream at us with his dip flying all over us, and that feeling of being terrified to make a mistake still sits with me today as a horrible experience learning to play ball. (Thankfully I had great parents to offset those bad experiences.) We were so scared to make a mistake that it affected our ability to play with a clear mind and the confidence to play our best. That plays heavily into my approach with coaching today.
As I played in high school and in college, I saw a mix of coaching styles, and it shaped the way I feel about coaching approaches. It's definitely not one-size-fits-all, but that's a parent's choice on how they want their player developed.
I want our boys loving this GAME and not being afraid to play fearless. They need to play hard and learn from those mistakes — without fear of being pulled from a game or embarrassed by a coach. We can be firm in our approach without being scary — and that's Crush Baseball.
How we develop players
01
Progression drills
We believe in learning through progression drills — breaking apart aspects of the game into pieces to build muscle memory and proper technique. We stay consistent in that approach so players learn routines.
02
Feel & self-correct
As players grow in the game, we teach them how to "feel" and recognize flaws in their technique, and how to make their own corrections.
03
The mental game
The best skills in the world don't matter if they don't come with confidence and a high baseball IQ. We train the mental side of the game just as hard.
